Comparison (the thief of joy)

Your uniqueness is worth celebrating. You are, and always will be, a one off. Just focus on that for a moment.

Although it’s common to compare oneself to others, that doesn’t make it any less damaging. There’s a risk of doing yourself a disservice by hiding your true essence (exhausting) and may lead to feelings of low self-worth, jealousy and resentment.

Do you take time to acknowledge and honour the special qualities that make you the person that you are?

What makes you, you, is incomparable. It might be easier to accept when you remember that we are all part of the whole, each of us serving a unique purpose in the big scheme of things.

If you can look to yourself, rather than to others, for your own fulfilment and development you are in a strong position in life. We have been told over and over that we are not enough, that we need to consume and change to make the grade in society, but this is a fallacy designed to make money out of you. As I always say, you are enough. You have always been enough.

We may have experiences in our lives that make it incredibly difficult or uncomfortable to just ‘be yourself.’ Remember that none of that was your fault and a lot of it is learned behaviour, not the real you. If you have become co-dependent or anxious etc. it’s just not your fault. However, your happiness, your success, is your responsibility. You can learn to observe your emotions and use them to help you to grow rather than let them navigate you. Underneath all of that learned behaviour and limiting beliefs is the real you. It’s healthy to be inspired by others but a waste of energy to measure yourself against, or try to be like, someone else.

We all have special gifts and it’s time well spent tuning into those rather than looking outside. We each have a divine purpose and our own unique, sometimes rocky, path to follow with lessons to learn. We each evolve in our own way, so to try to compare yourself to others serves no purpose.

Many of us have been conditioned to look outside of ourselves to try to figure out where we fit in, but the answer is inside. No one else can tell you who you are or what your divine purpose is.

If you’re not sure what makes you special or what your purpose is try the following:

Spend time being still and ask yourself:

“What do I love to do?”

“What do I want to see more of in the world and how do I do that?”

Then listen to the silence inside or journal and see what comes up.

Nurturing your uniqueness enables you to grow, evolve and deepen your own happiness in powerful and positive ways.

WHAT MAKES YOU, YOU? Nurture it. Embrace it. Own it.
